A Nature Communications study found that higher trigger-day hCG doses in ART may reduce DNA methylation and raise neurodevelopmental risk in offspring. Its relevance to Kleefstra syndrome is EHMT1: mutations in EHMT1 cause Kleefstra, and this study found hCG exposure reduced EHMT1 expression in oocytes; restoring Ehmt1 in mice improved neurogenesis and behavior.
